Community Center construction in progress.
The project plans to construct a Community Center targeting 1500 beneficiaries in and around Okola district, particularly young people and low-income families. It is to be located in the Ekabita-Tom area, close to the primary and secondary school, on grounds owned by the Foundation MEM.
The centre will comprise of; a library which will also serve as a multipurpose hall, an ICT room, a classroom for evening and adult class, offices and toilets. The Library/multipurpose hall will be furnished for use as a reading and study room, or training room for NGO awareness campaigns. Two rooms of the centre will host an ICT and a second study, in which students of all levels will have the opportunity to deepen the knowledge acquired at school. This facility will provide a more conducive space for students to prepare for key final exams. To remedy (-to) the recurring electricity shortage (sometimes distribution is limited to 3 – 5 hours per day) Foundation MEM has purchased a 22Kva three-phase generator, while looking for an investment in renewable energy supply.
Such facilities will help the Foundation in its continual effort to support the education of young people and adults around the area, and provide its students with a place where they can enhance their education and broaden their understanding of the world.
The community center is also a place of gathering where young will meet old, in an intellectual environment, where the more able can help the less able, where other cultures can be learned and explored through books, and magazines, where new idea can be born; that is the vision we have for the center, and that is how the project can promote education and international friendship, how new ideas can be discovered and new technology explained.
